Grinspoon http://www.grinspoon.com.au/page/Band and me go way back….

Back at the end of the last century. This band broke out onto the Australian music scene regularly being played on the Australian radio station Triple J and I instantly fell in rock and roll love.
One of my favourite song was dead cat 3 times which was a song written about a dead cat that was on the side of the road that they passed regularly on the way to gigs. Well so they once said in an interview. It was a rocking song.

I certainly followed these guys and took a few knocks along the way. Another cool oldskool tune is Just Ace and this is a real good video from the Big Day Out Festival in Australia I lived in Perth West Australia and so was very isolated from seeing them play as they were always on the east coast. So I went to see them instead, once in Brisbane and once in Sydney.

For the Brisbane Festival I dragged my friend all the way there too. It was a brilliant festival not for my friend though as soon as she got there realised the music was not her cup of tea and left but I felt the love of her commitment to come with me. So that day was just me the music and Grinspoon.

At the other festival in Sydney, another great festival, tragedy happened..’Oh no’ I hear you gasp?

Well the story is,  I made sure I was right down at the front eagerly anticipating the bands entrance. They came, they rocked and halfway through the first song with me leaning on the barrier, some bloody fat, huge, monstrous bloke landed on top of me when he was crowd surfing. I was sandwiched between him and the small metal cylinder on the top of barrier.
It bloody hurt and had to be pulled out by the security.

Well it hurt but I tried to be tough… And failed… Every time I sneezed I collapsed in agony and 2 days later I woke up and found I couldn’t breath, fuck I thought I must have a broken rib…. Well no I didn’t. After a trip to the doctors I found I had a bruised sternum that’s all. Not so rockin roll.

Grinspoon will be playing at the Sonisphere Festival http://team.sonispherefestivals.com/s.php?t=8&m=396 I can not wait.. I still love you Grinspoon, can’t wait to catch up again but I will seeing you at the back.

Heres a video for the Sonisphere festival, a sneak preview of what is to come http://team.sonispherefestivals.com/s.php?t=10&m=396

Its going to be one hell of a festival…

This week  I am  well on my way to putting the last 2 years of what I have learnt in University into practice. I will admit its great fun, although I am comparing this to doing 2 dissertations, 3 essays, 1 literature review, a presentation, and a portfolio all to be completed within the next 3 months….     Now breath…

Digital Marketing takes a long time! So far  in one week, I have completed 10 hours of researching bands and club nights to target and now I will spend an hour each day  uploading links on these pages aswell as annoying all my friends on facebook asking them to upload links for me too. This is added to 8 hours of flyering outside these club nights, gigs, the london protests last weekend, bars and shopping areas. AND on these flyers I have to write codes on them…. remember the code SF96L if you purchase a ticket for the Sonisphere Festival do it here at… http://www2.seetickets.com/sonisphere/ and enter that link to win prizes and help me to earn a little money to pay off my student loan… These codes have so far taken 2 hours to write a stack of flyers 13cm high…. I have 2 boxes to do.

What have I earnt $$$  for this? So far free entry into a club and a couple of drinks but there are incentives like free tickets etc and by god I am trying but with only being able to cover a limited area with a limited amount of time due to uni I’m not liking my chances..

But all this work is great for the festival as they have hundreds of people all over the UK doing exactly the same. The music industry can be very clever! Lets just hope they notice me and all the hard, almost free work that I put in and will then one day, hire me……

I shall keep you posted

Please check out my labour of love. I am doing this for the Sonishphere Festival, one of the biggest festivals in the UK, where some of the biggest rock gods will be playing so it is worth it…. http://team.sonispherefestivals.com/s.php?t=8&m=396

And this is a pretty cool video unfortunately this site can’t let you upload links from MUZU TV so here is the link

‘Who is the Sonisphere Virgin?’ I hear you ask.

Well I am an undergraduate who is studying all things live music events, especially promotion, project management and the environmental sustainability of live events.

My interests are; festivals. I love festivals, I love going to them and I would love to work in them and this leads me to here, my first ever blog. I wish to discuss all things festivals, to meet and create a community with similar interests.

Festivals are very expensive so this year I am trying different ways in order to get to go to the festivals and to work at the festivals. It’s a dream job really, to have fun at work, create a great experience for thousands of people and get to see all the live music. Cant ask for much more..

So… in order for me to hopefully make it to Sonisphere this year for the first time, I have joined their Sonisphere’s Ambassadors program. I have to try to get all you ugly mugs out there to buy tickets using my special code (student finance does not seem to stretch to festivals these days). I’m doing this not only to get me some free tickets I am hoping to put all of my university work into practice ( yes I actually did some study) and try to do a little bit of concert/festival  promotion. I will let you know how I go as I go along..

So when purchasing tickets if you enter this code: SF96L at this link http://www2.seetickets.com/sonisphere/ you can have the chance to win loads of prizes, 2x rock royalty tickets, backstage tour, guest access passes and a trip for 2 to the festival in Poland including flights and transfers. WOW. I wouldn’t mind the backstage tour.

Other than that I look foward to writng my new blog…
